Alexandra Dock is a commercial dock at King's Lynn, Norfolk sites on the Great River Ouse.

At the entrance to the lock, the noemal flood protection for the Kings Lynn area totally relies on the closure of one pair of 16m span sector gates installed in 1988. These sector gates have proved unreliable in the past so to minimise flood risk the E.A

The E.A through their framework agreement emplyed breheny who in turn contracted Taylor & Sons to design, manufacture and trial install a set of stop logs to act as their secondary line of defence.

The contract comprised of seven stop logs (4 x 1.5m high, 3 x 1.2m high) x 16m span each weighing approximately 7.5 tonnes, lifting chain, stop logs guides and a rack for long term storage.

The paint system applied was a 3 coat glass flake epoxy system suitable for marine use and was applied using Taylor & Sons own in-house facilitites.

The contract was concluded successfully in late 2006 with training being provided by Taylor & Sons in early 2007.

Based on Taylor & Sons perofrmance on this contract, further work has been awarded to them by the E. A and their framework partners.
